With Shure SRH840 everything sounds like it was intended to, plus one or two enhanced details. These are a pair of monitoring headphones that do not ensure a crystal clear definition of the instruments. The sound reproduction is just fluid and smooth. Nothing really stands out while listening to podcasts, music or movies. The clarity of the sound is excellent. Shure has not customized this particular model for bass enhancements or detailed lows and highs. Overall the sound is rich and extended. I do not fancy over-detailed sound systems that make every breath hearable or that make me feel surrounded by what I am listening to. Shure SRH840 have indeed a legendary performance in a way that they do not add another dimension to the sound and they do not exaggerate the bass parts or the 3D effect.
As far as the looks and durability of this pair goes, they do not feature a fancy design, but a well-built basic one. The headband is projected to be stretched more than other headphones and the package includes replaceable ear cup pads. The rigors of everyday use can definitely be met this Shure’s professional monitoring earphones.
The SRH840 is a professional grade set of headphones. It is built to last and to be used in professional environments. You can rely on them when you are recording in studios or when you are just monitoring.
One of the nice additions supplied by Shure is the 10 feet cable. Monitoring does not imply too much movement, but it is nice to have a sort of freedom in order to reach various things. Also, the carrying bag is fitted for storage, so caring for this product is quite simple.

Here are some of the pros and cons of the Shure SRH840 Professional Monitoring Earphones (Black)
Straight-forward design – The design of SRH840 is pretty simple. They look robust because of the thick headband and the relatively large ear cups. They come in black and Shure’s logo is imprinted in white. They also have one blue circle and one red circle on the back of the headband for the identification of the left and right ear cups.
Highly comfortable design – The ear pads are soft, adjustable and they are resistant to moisture. They ensure a comfortable use for many hours in a row. The cushions tend to get a little warm, but that is because of the body temperature.
Faithful and clear sound – SRH840 provides a typical monitoring sound. The sound reproduction is balanced and faithful to the original. Nothing sparkles, but everything sounds clear.
Effective noise reduction – The closed built and the construction of the ear cups guarantee an effective noise reduction. The noise made by your computer or any other sources of annoying sounds is instantly diminished.
Replaceable cable and ear pads – No one says these headphones will last forever, but at least you get a few extra accessories. In case the cable or the ear pads must be change, you have a spare at hand.
SRH840 look very wide – When I tried to adjust the headband so they fit on my head I noticed it kind of sticks out and becomes very wide. Although they fir well on my ears, they look larger than other headphones. I would not wear them on the street.
The Shure SRH840 model stands out among all the monitoring headphones out there. The neutral sound is guaranteed and the long-lasting life as well. I highly recommend this pair as the best choice in terms of quality and price.
